Senior Design Technologist

2018 - Present Design Systems

  • Hired to lead transition of the Design System from Engineering to UX. Coordinated with Engineering to ensure a smooth handover of code ownership, support process, and institutional knowledge.
  • Conducted qualitative research with internal UX and Engineering users around the globe to understand the pain points of the design system and created the system architecture of our new theme-aware and composable React-based Design System.
  • Technical architect and project lead for the next generation Design System documentation website. This is a GatsbyJS and Wordpress hybrid which provides self-service support for the Design System to our users across all product disciplines. Provided ongoing project management and mentorship to junior developers maintaining and improving the website.
  • Led an advocacy campaign for Inclusive Terminology as a founding member of the internal Documentation Guild. This generated organization-wide impact, including over 100 Closed tickets as teams across the product organization updated terminology usage.

Senior Software Engineer / Product Owner

  • Technical product ownership including Kanban backlog management, story creation, and managing internal stakeholder priorities.
  • Large migration projects including the upgrades of over 40 codebases from PHP 5.6 to 7.1, and moving 12 active website codebases to a unified Docker local development environment from varied Vagrant environments.

  • Responsible for ongoing maintenance and new feature development for a dozen production client websites, as well as the supervision and mentorship of junior engineer staff and support contractors.
  • Front and backend work including responsive theming, custom WYSIWYG elements, custom modules.
  • Responsible for streamlining and maintaining the development and deployment workflows across mixed hosting platforms (Pantheon, Acquia, Black Mesh, Heroku, bare metal) and site build methodologies.

University of Texas Libraries
2012 - 2014 Technology Integration Services

  • Lead developer for all public facing library websites. Responsible for maintaining the flagship Drupal website, a 20 site Wordpress installation, and dozens of HTML websites averaging 1,000,000+ combined monthly views.
  • Successfully migrated the flagship library website to Drupal 7 while guiding the adoption of critical technologies and standards, including responsive design patterns and a GitHub development and deployment workflow.
  • Prototype development of physically interactive library elements including digital signage, a study space availability system and an arcade-style Tetris console using a custom control interface.

Media Coordinator

  • Technical development of online coursework for K-12 students and teacher professional development using the Epsilen LMS, Adobe Captivate and HTML5 / Javascript based interactive elements.
  • Responsible for the visual consistency in our products through Adobe Photoshop master compositions and CSS styling, now deployed in schools across Texas.
  • Recorded and edited video and audio elements for multimedia components and launched an in-house video hosting solution complete with accessibility features.

  • Converted five student media properties to cloud hosted Drupal and Wordpress websites with an in-house advertising platform and in-house video hosting platform to reduce reliance on external partners and increase overall revenue.Provided strategic planning for the web and social media presences of the media properties to the student managers of the media properties.
